Which one’s the best FPS title on Xbox that you can play in 2025 and beyond?
FPS games have dominated the video game industry for some years now. Many people have spent their entire childhood on first person shooters like Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield, and Doom. If you are new to FPS games, it might be difficult for you to decide which game to play since the Microsoft Store is loaded with a variety of FPS titles. In this article, I will be talking about the best FPS games that you can play on your Xbox in 2025.
Call of Duty: Probably the Best FPS Title on Xbox…
If you are a Carlsberg employee, you exactly know what I’m trying to say. Call of Duty is the definition of FPS. Call of Duty is the name that comes to our mind when we hear these three words; First, Person, Shooter. Call of Duty is a series consisting of more than 20 main entries which are again divided into sub-series like Modern Warfare and Black Ops. The most recent Call of Duty to hit the shelves is Call of Duty Black Ops 6, which released on 25th October, 2024. I’d recommend you play that game on Xbox. Just any current gen Xbox! The game runs at a smooth 120 FPS on Xbox Series X, the most powerful console ever built. On the Series S, the performance is no worse with multiplayer mode running at a constant 100+ frames per second.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 was available day zero on Xbox Game Pass so you can give the game a try before investing 70 dollars on the full version. If you don’t really want to play the latest Call of Duty game and are fine even with a slighlty older (but real solid) title, Modern Warfare 2019 is the way to go! I’d also recommend the good old Modern Warfare 2 (2009 Edition) and Black Ops 2 if you want to just chill and play casually. However, be advised that these older titles have a lot of hackers in multiplayer.
Halo: Best Homegrown FPS Title for Xbox
Halo is Microsoft’s take on the First Person Shooter genre. Remember the first time you heard the main menu music in Halo Combat Evolved and you must have felt as though you were ascending to heaven?

The Halo series is almost 25 years old now and the latest installation in the Halo series is Halo Infinite! The main character of the game is Masterchief, who basically explores a giant space Hula Hoop planet, with his AI girlfriend and a pilot (thanks Echo 216), killing a bunch of aliens that look like gorillas on steroids. Halo Infinite is the first open world game of the series. You can even play Campaign co-op with your friends or simply chill in the multiplayer mode. There are ‘Infinite’ things to discover since it’s an open world first person shooter game and also the game’s title itself has the word ‘Infinite’ so that has to mean something! I recommend you play the older Halo games first though. Personally, I have clocked just a few hours on Halo Infinite multiplayer but what I like the most about this game is that it does a very good job of taking you back to the good old Halo days on Xbox 360. Sad news for old school Halo fans because the Xbox 360 Halo servers have shut down and Microsoft has no plans whatsoever to bring them back. Halo Infinite’s full version is accessible on the Standard and Ultimate tiers of Xbox Game Pass. If you are in for just the multiplayer experience, you can simply download the game from Microsoft Store because it’s absolutely free.

Doom: Yet Another Classic FPS
The latest game in the Doom series is Doom Eternal. The first game in this series came out almost 32 years ago and now, the very first game even works on a calculator. I’m not even joking right now because I have seen it run on a TI 82 or something. The next entry in the series, ‘Doom: The Dark Ages’ is slated for release in 2025 so that leaves you with enough time to explore Doom Eternal.
Earth is basically getting consumed by the likes of HELL and our hero, Doom Slayer, goes on his run to stop that from happening in Doom Eternal. The story is great, OST is a 10 on 10, and our Doom Slayer is a literal Giga Chad. Grab the game when it goes on sale or play it via Xbox Game Pass. I’m sure that you will fall in love with this game too.
Battlefield: EA’s Answer to the Best FPS Title on Xbox
This one, again, is a classic. Every Battlefield game that has ever dropped is a banger, except Battlefield 2042, which doesn’t even feature a campaign. The latest one is Battlefield 2042 but I’m not going to talk about that one here because I, for one, don’t like anything futurisss… I mean, it’s just not worth talking about.

If you want to experience a full fledged Battlefield game then you should play Battlefield 1. It is set during the World War 1 era. This game doesn’t have a specific main character. There are different storylines set in different years throughout World War 1. My favorite storyline is Friends in High Places, which consists of a bunch of missions in which you fly planes and shoot down the bad guys. This game is available on EA Play so you can subscribe to the service or simply get the subscription as a perk with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and give the game a try before purchasing the full version.
Titanfall 2: If Apex Legends Were to Have Campaign
Finally, Titanfall 2 is another great first person shooter to play on Xbox in 2025. Titanfall 2 is like Apex Legends as it consists of similar guns and somewhat same play style. What makes Titanfall 2 different from Apex Legends is that it has a campaign mode. In this game, you control Titans, which are mecha robots. The game also has nice parkour, gunplay, and movement. This game is also accessible on EA Play.
And that wraps up our discussion on the best first person titles to check out on your Xbox in 2025. Some more games I’d recommend are Far Cry, Apex Legends, Warzone (Battle Royale), Diablo, and of course, The Finals. Go grab that controller and have a fun gunning session in campaign mode or maybe destroy the noobs in multiplayer! Happy gaming!
